Tournament Results

Well, it turned out there wasn't anyone registered in my division so I ended up just coaching this tournament :-(

Overall the team did well.

Adults:
Andrew took 1st in the beginner no-gi absolute and 3rd in the white belt absolute.  Arturo took 1st in the white belt under 150 division.  Jose took 3rd in the white belt under 165 division.  Khoger and Josh fought hard matches against the eventual winners of their divisions.

Kids:
David took silver in both his gi and no-gi under 60 divisions.  Keegan took two silvers in both his gi and no-gi under 110 divisions.   Koen placed 3rd in the no-gi under 80 division.  Abby did not feel prepared for this tournament but is looking forward to competing in the next one.

I want to say a special congrats to little David.  He did such an outstanding job on Saturday.  He got his first tournament match win ever!  You should have seen the smile on his face, it was priceless!  He was landing judo throws all over the place, passing the guard, and mounting his opponents!  No submissions, but positionally he was great!  After his matches HE told ME that the reason he did so well this time around is because he has been training harder and sparring harder in class.  This is coming from a 7 year old!  I expect great things from David in the years to come.

Great job to everyone on Team DTJJ that competed!  Especially those who were competing for this first time, and those of you who got your first gold!  Keep coming to class and training hard and there will be nothing but success down the road.

Change of Plans!

I will be competing tomorrow at CopaNova....even though I'm 15-20lbs over my competition weight and have a sore rib and knee!  I have to start 2011 off right, and what better way to do that than with a tournament!!!  I can't wait!

Good luck to Josh, Arturo, Jose, Khoger, Koen, Keegan, Abby, and David who will all also be competing!  Let's go Team Dave Trader!!!

My knee is almost better..

Last night I jumped in the guard rotation!  It was great!  I hadn't rolled in almost three weeks due to my knee.  I was a little hesitant at first because there were a lot of new guys in class...and we all know how spastic new people can be!  I ended up jumping in about half way through, I just couldn't take sitting on the sideline any longer.  It felt so good to roll around again.  Three weeks may not seem long to some of you, but anyone who does BJJ knows how much that can sucks!  That was the longest break I've taken off of jiu-jitsu in probably two years!

Due to this break in training, I will not be participating in the CopaNova tournament this Saturday, but I will still be there to support the guys on the team that will be competing, and to coach my kids team!  We have about 5 adults and 4 kids competing.  Good luck to them all!
